All I know is that I have to gas up every time I sneeze. Mobil oil is recording record profits, and I'm trying to find people in a 40 mile radius who want to car pool with me to my job, one and a half hours away. During the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, when I went down to Florida to help my stepmother clean up, I had to stand on gas lines for up to 8 hours a day. Exxon-Mobil was making billions of dollars of profit. The prices went through the roof.

Isn't it strange that a large corporation can make recordbreaking profits during a national disaster? During wartime? My parents talked of gas rationing during WWII, we dont' ration anything, or hold prices down. And Wolfowitz, before getting the BIG JOB at the World Bank, promised us that the Iraq War would pay for itself with Iraqi oil. Hah. Just for that statement, he shouldn't be allowed to head the Bank..the man is a con artist!!!

When I take public transportation, it's an extra half hour to the job. Four hours to commute round trip. I'm on the job provisionally, so I don't want to move, until I'm sure I'll be working there at least another year. Did I say I'm a school teacher? I remember when I was a girl, my fifth grade teacher had 3 kids, a wife a house, and a car. I rent, and have one kid, and find it impossible to commute to work, every day.
I take the car only on special occasions. Last week I had to go upstate, so was able to go through Jersey, where the prices are 20c cheaper. After you factor in the extra tolls, it doesn't seem worth it. It doesn't help that my gas gauge isn't really working anymore; the gauge does a little hiccup, and I have to gas up again, or I'll be dead in traffic.
