My friend Mr. Earl is a DJ in Florida, and is a totally fit
person of 65, with not an ounce of fat, one vericose vein or even one broken capillary. Recently, my cousin Bobby was hospitalized for
hypertension, and stomach pains, so Mr. Ealrl wrote this treatise on food/exercise...I thought I'd pass it
along...

RULES:

1. You can cheat - but not too much - or you'll
get sickly again. Do not expect instant results.

2. No white bread, rolls, crackers or anything made
with refined flour except pasta in small quantities (
whole grain pasta is better) or an occasional cookie or pastry. Brown rice is much, much better than white (and more flavorful).

3. Go for WHOLE GRAIN baked goods as much as
possible. (Most supermarket "wheat bread" is fake. Make sure you're getting 100%
whole grains.)

4. Avoid sugary cereals. Whole grains are best. Find
them in the heath food store, and even there watch out for hidden sugar and salt. (read the labels!) Arrowhead Mills makes many great whole grain products without additives.

5. Eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies, then have some more.

6. Fish, chicken or turkey is much better than beef,
pork or mutton. Portions should be way smaller than most Americans are used to.

7. Absolutely NO
trans fats (hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated anything). READ THE LABELS!

8. When in doubt, throw it out!

9. Keep salt intake to a minimum.

10. Ditto for sugar.

11. Don't smoke... it kills your
taste buds, gives you aged skin before your time, and eventually kills you. Smokers use more
sugar and salt because they can't taste anything.

12. After awhile, you'll find your food tastes salty
and/or sweet enough without heavy doses of salt or sugar.

13. NO sodas (pop or tonics). If you must have
carbonated beverages, mix 1/2 fruit juice with carbonated water. Best fruit juice: Concord Grape (it's way too sweet, so mix half and half with water), but have a variety. Watch out for
fake fruit juice products. "Light" means they added 20% water.

14. Watch out for "health foods". Many items are
loaded with salt, and meat and cheese substitutes are often made with deadly trans fats.

15. MORE IMPORTANT than all the above... GET LOTS
OF AEROBIC EXERCISE. At least a half hour per day, and at least two days a week do a couple of hours.
Moderate weight lifting is also good. Don't jump in and go nuts. Ease into your excercise program... NO PAIN = NO PAIN!!!

16. Have some more
fresh fruits and vegetables
(sometimes frozen is fresher than "fresh"). WASH fruits and veggies thoroughly. They are often covered with poisons when you buy them.

17. Take a multi-vitamin daily, just in case.

18. A little yogurt won't hurt, but don't have too much dairy. Soy milk is better than cow's.
Publix or Walmart's house brands vanilla soymilk are tasty, inexpensive and not too sweet... perfect for cereal. Frozen yogurt is much better than ice cream. Avoid artificial ingredients as much as possible.
A little suger is much better for you than chemical
crap. Same for butter.
Don't have a lot of butter, but avoid margarine like
the plague. I recommend
imported Danish butter 'cause it tastes better.

19. Remember... Almost everything offered for sale
in supermarkets, delis and even
health food stores is unfit for human consumption... ESPECIALLY prepared foods such as frozen dinners etc.

20. Go for a bicycle ride, but watch out for the
cars. No point in getting squashed for health.

21. Go swimming. Try 15 minutes at first, then more
and more as you get stronger.

22. Have some more fruit.
